Clemson batters belted four home runs as the Tigers outslugged Notre Dame 13-7 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium, Friday. Caden Grice, Max Wagner, Bryce Teodosio and Jonathan French all homered to help propel Clemson to victory in its first conference game of the season. Davis Sharpe (2-0) earned the win despite an uneven performance. The team’s no. 1 starter uncharacteristically walked six and gave up five runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Relievers Ryan Ammons and Nick Clayton were each charged with an earned run before closer Geoffrey Gilbert slammed the door shut with a pair of scoreless frames. Kier Meredith, playing in just his second game due to injury, tied a career high with four hits and drove home two runs with a single in the seventh.
Clemson (5-2, 1-0) and Notre Dame are back at it, Saturday, at 3 p.m. Right hander Ty Olenchuk (1-0, 2.00) will make his third start of the season for the Tigers.
