Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney got his team started on the 2020 season Thursday afternoon without junior defensive end Xavier Thomas. Swinney said Thomas contracted Covid-19 in March, and also had to deal with a case of strep throat. Those illnesses have left him in no condition to play in games according to Thomas, so the plan is for him to practice but redshirt the season. Of course, Thomas can still play in four games and keep his redshirt status.
