ATH Simeon Price (6-0 204) of Pensacola, FL Wednesday afternoon announced a commitment to USC. Price picked the Gamecocks from a favorites list that included Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Michigan State and Tennessee. The Gamecocks offered Price in February and worked him hard with Bobby Bentley, Joe Cox and Travaris Robinson joining head coach Will Muschamp in pushing their message across.
“I’ve been impressed by the players who have been there, and the coaching staff,” Price said this spring. “I’ve talked to Coach Robinson, Coach Muschamp and Coach Bentley and they are great guys, and that’s what I’m looking for.”
Price can also play wide receiver and in the secondary, so having that kind of position flexibility was something he said Muschamp found valuable in him.
“I pride myself in being a smart player, being able to read body languages and really just make plays all over the field,” Price said. “We talked about using me as maybe like Deebo Samuel when he was at South Carolina. He also mentioned if I happen to be on the defensive side ball I’d be a Nickel guy, kind of like Stephon Gilmore. I pride myself on whatever position you’re in, you have to react to that and read the other guys. If you are at corner, you’ve got to read the body language of the receiver, running back the body language of the whole defense, and so-on and so-forth. You have to stay locked in at all times. I’m pretty results driven. Whatever the coach says, man we need you to do this, I’m all for that. I want to win and I want to bring as many championships to whatever team I’m on.”
Price will bring a lot of speed to the USC program. He qualified for the National Junior Olympics in track before he got to high school, and he has applied that speed on the football field on offense, defense and in the return game. His dad Michell Price played four seasons in the NFL.
Price is the 12th commitment for the Gamecocks’ 2021 class and the third who can be used at receiver. The Gamecocks are in the running for another receiver prospect who is announcing Thursday at 1:00 PM in Derwin Burgess of Riverdale, GA.
