6-2 Jacobi Wright of Fort Mill, who attends Legacy Charter in Greenville, has made up his mind on his college choice. He will make his announcement via a video on Twitter and Instagram at approximately 2:00 PM Sunday.
His decision came from USC, Winthrop and Charlotte, and he didn’t make the decision until giving each one more chance to make one final argument about why he should choose them.
“I had Zoom calls with them,” Wright said. “I guess with each call they were giving their last pitch. I just told one of them I was committed, and then another one of them I told I had decided on a different school. I haven’t told the last school yet.”
Wright said the school he and his family decided on was the one that overall checked off all the boxes on their wish list.
“The relationship that I have with the school at this point,” Wright said. “How I fit. Just the environment. I just think it’s somewhere where I can call home. It’s a place where my parents are very comfortable with me going to college. They feel I’m around good people. And it’s somewhere where I can keep developing my game and become a better player and person.”
Further convincing Wright that he had made the right decision was the reaction he got from the staff of the school he picked when he told them they were it.
‘It was a lot of excitement,” Wright said. “They were just excited as I was to tell them. It just made me feel good because it made me feel like they really wanted me.”
Wright also had offers from St. John’s, DePaul, Elon, Tennessee State, Tulsa, UNC-Wilmington and Rhode Island. He averaged 17 points and 5 assists per game last season.
