#STRecruiting Notebook 4-9 (UPDATED)

A second major USC target in Georgia in as many days has announced a commitment to the Bulldogs. RB Lovasea Carroll of Warrenton and IMG Academy in Florida, who was actually the Gamecocks’ first commitment for the 2021 class, announced his pledge to Georgia Thursday afternoon. His commitment follows that of OT Micah Morris of Kingsland. Like Morris, Carroll also had the Gamecocks on his short list along with Auburn, Florida and Tennessee. He committed to USC last May and then decommitted September 1st. Carroll is close friends with Gamecock quarterback commitment Colten Gauthier, and the two had talked about teaming up with the Gamecocks.

Westside OT Jayden Ramsey committed to Appalachian State.

The Citadel landed a commitment from OL Ian Adams of Asheville, NC.

6-4 Tyler Bowens of Wade Hampton committed to Carson-Newman.

USC will continue to move forward with its recruiting of 4-star LB Greg Penn (6-1 225) of Dematha High in Hyattsville, MD. Penn Wednesday night named the Gamecocks as one of his final six along with Texas A&M, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee and Maryland. Penn visited USC March 5th giving the Gamecocks the last visit before the recruiting visits were put on hold. Some of the schools who had offered and did not make the short list are Florida, Florida State, Kentucky, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan State and Duke. Penn is ranked by 247Sports composite as the #8 inside linebacker in the country and the #11 prospect in Maryland.

Clemson made the next round of cuts with 5-star CB Tony Grimes (6-0 180) of Virginia Beach. Grimes announced his top 8 Wednesday as Clemson, Virginia, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Penn State, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee. Grimes had planned to get to Clemson in March but wasn’t able to make it before visits were stopped. He did visit Penn State and Georgia during the live period earlier this year. He has set December 1st for his commitment announcement. Grimes is ranked the #7 prospect in the country in the 247Sports composite, the #1 cornerback and the #1 prospect in Virginia.

USC is in the final 11 with DE Tariq Robbins of Philadelphia. Also on his short list are Baylor, Iowa State, Tennessee, NC State, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Arizona State, Virginia, Rutgers, Georgia Tech and Duke.

USC offered 2023 LB Caleb Herring (6-5 205) of Murfreesboro, TN.

USC offered 2022 4-start WR CJ Williams of Santa Ana, CA.

USC offered 4-star WR Keon Coleman (6-4 185) of Opelousas, LA.

Myrtle Beach WR JJ Jones was offered by Missouri.

South Pointe DB O’Mega Blake was offered by Georgia Tech and Michigan State.

York WR Da’Shawn Brown was offered by MTSU.

Hilton Head 2022 LB Jaylen Sneed was offered by Florida, Tennessee and Oklahoma.

2022 ATH EJ Evett of Seneca was offered by Virginia Tech. He also has a USC offer.

2022 WR Aaron Randall of Myrtle Beach was offered by West Virginia.

Clemson baseball commitment Lonnie White, a 3-star dual threat QB from Malvern, PA, was offered by Syracuse.

WR Adonai Mitchell of Antioch, TN, who has a USC offer, named a top five of Auburn, LSU, Georgia, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech.

OL Diego Pounds of Raleigh, who is getting Clemson and USC interest, was offered by Alabama and Missouri.

Hartsville 6-11 center Cesare Edwards was offered by Ole Miss.
