South Carolina receivers coach Mike Furrey is wasting no time in filling his coffers for the 2028 class.

After landing a public commitment Wednesday morning from Jet Gibbs of Burlington, NC, Furrey on Thursday night picked up a commitment from Jhamari Cain (6-0 178) of Richmond.

Cain chose the Gamecocks over Kentucky and Virginia Tech. He also had offers from Syracuse, East Carolina, Marshall, Liberty and Temple.

Cain competed in front of Furrey in June at a 7on7 tournament at USC and was offered on June 13th. He had been to previous tournaments at USC, so he and Furrey have become close over the years.

“It’s more than football,” Cain said. “I got a great bond, especially with Coach Furrey. I’ve had a great bond with him since the first time I came up there. It feels great when I go up there. I feel good. I feel comfortable.”

Last season, Cain caught 28 passes for 532 yards and five touchdowns. He said Furrey likes everything about his game.

“Most definitely route running and catching,” Cain said. “I know how to block. I take pride in blocking too. Ain’t gonna lie. You can’t be on the field and don’t know how to block.”

Cain is a teammate of USC 2027 receiver commitment Iveon Lewis, but he said his decision was made independent of that.
