Major League Baseball Draft takes a total of 29 players with ties to the Palmetto State

The annual MLB Draft ended Sunday night after 613 selections. The state of South Carolina contributed 29 of those picks, with Clemson and USC contributing seven each. And there were a total of six first-round picks with ties to the state.

Five Clemson veterans were chosen along with two of the Tigers’ high school recruits. Three veterans from USC were picked along with four free agents the Gamecocks signed this summer. And three regulars off of this year’s Coastal Carolina team were drafted.

The Citadel, Upstate, Wofford and Francis Marion each had one player chosen. There were five prep players from the state taken, including three in the first round. Two other high school products from the state playing in the SEC were picked. And one former USC player was also drafted.
