



CONWAY, SC: Deuce Bailey threw three touchdown passes, Nico Cavanillas Alti kicked a school-record 56-yard field goal and Coastal Carolina gave head coach Ryan Beard his first victory with a 45-7 win over Fordham on Saturday night at Brooks Stadium.
Coastal improved to 1-1 with the win in Beard’s home debut, while Fordham fell to 0-3.
Bailey completed 12 of 25 passes for 203 yards without an interception. The sophomore threw three touchdown passes for the second consecutive game, connecting with Colton Hinton, Robby Washington, and Clayton Coppock, Jr. The Chanticleers finished with 460 yards of total offense, including 251 on the ground, and scored the final 38 points after Fordham tied the game early in the second quarter.
Dominic Lee-Knicely opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run to cap Coastal’s 10-play, 75-yard opening possession. Fordham answered on Gunnar Smith’s 6-yard touchdown pass to Nodin Tracy with 13:09 remaining in the second quarter.
Bailey put Coastal back in front less than two minutes later, finding Hinton for a 65-yard touchdown. The Chants extended the lead to 21-7 when Bailey connected with Washington for a 23-yard score with 5:01 left in the half.
Coastal added another touchdown following a Fordham punt late in the second quarter. Washington’s 26-yard return gave the Chants possession at the Rams’ 16-yard line, and Bailey found Coppock for a 12-yard touchdown two plays later to send Coastal into halftime with a 28-7 lead.
Lee-Knicely scored his second touchdown on an 18-yard run midway through the third quarter. He finished with 45 yards on five carries as one of eight Chanticleers to record a rushing attempt.
Alti padded the lead with his school-record 56-yard field goal with 15 seconds remaining in the third quarter. The senior also converted all six of his extra-point attempts.
Irmo’s Jaden Allen-Hendrix capped the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. He led Coastal’s rushing attack with 58 yards on seven carries, while Jevon Edwards added 51 yards on nine attempts.
Hinton led the receiving corps with three catches for 101 yards. Coppock recorded two receptions for 26 yards, while Washington had a 23-yard touchdown catch and totaled 106 all-purpose yards.
Coastal’s defense held Fordham to 215 total yards and forced four turnovers. Marcellius Pulliam led the Chants with eight tackles and forced a fumble. Coastal recorded four sacks and limited Fordham to 2-of-11 on third down.
The Chanticleers return to action next Saturday when they travel to Delaware. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET.
