Clemson 12 – Stanford 5 Game Summary
- Clemson erupted for a season-high 18 hits in a 12-5 rout of Stanford at Sunken Diamond on Easter Sunday.
- The Tigers found themselves down 2-0 before the offense started humming in the middle innings. Clemson scored two runs in the fourth, two more in the fifth and five in the sixth to take a 9-5 lead.
- Right fielder Jack Crighton (3-6, 2 RBI) accounted for Clemson’s first run on a solo homer leading off the fourth inning. Five batters later, Jason Fultz, Jr. (2-4, double) tacked on another run with an RBI single to right.
- Stanford clapped back with a long ball off Clemson starter Drew Titsworth in the bottom of the fourth. After the next three batters reached to load the bases, Titsworth was pulled in favor of southpaw Brandon Bennett. The Cardinal scored once more on a sacrifice fly before Bennett wiggled out of the jam on a popout and a flyout.
- For the second inning in a row, Clemson got a leadoff homer, this time from center fielder Bryce Clavon. Later in the fifth, Nate Savoie’s two-out single brought in Tryston McCladdie to tie the game 4-4.
- Stanford broke the tie with an RBI double off Bennett in the home half of the fifth. After a second walk in the inning, it was Bennett’s turn to get bailed out and freshman Dylan Harrison (W, 2-1) entered from the pen to prevent further damage.
- Now trailing 5-4, Clemson opened the sixth with a walk and an infield single to put runners on for the top of the lineup. The Tigers hitters smelled blood in the water and attacked. Four straight batters reached base on a single (Clavon), hit-by-pitch (McCladdie), single (Crighton) and double (Luke Gaffney). After the dust cleared, Clemson had plated five runs to take a 9-5 lead.
- The Tigers added three insurance runs in the eighth thanks to RBI doubles from Savoie, Jacob Jarrell and Tyler Lichtenberger. Savoie finished with a single and pair of doubles to raise his average to .336. All nine Clemson starters registered a hit.
- Harrison (a California native) and Danny Nelson, two freshmen, held Stanford scoreless over the final 4.1 innings to seal the win and the series.
- Clemson (21-12, 4-8) will wrap up its west coast swing with a date at Santa Clara. First pitch between the Tigers and the Broncos is scheduled for Monday at 9 p.m. Eastern.
