Fields has set an unofficial visit with the Gamecocks for March 21st, and an official visit for June 5th.
“It’s going real good,” Fields said. “Every conversation that we’ve had over text and call has been positive. They want me to be at a specific weight (260 pounds). Right now, it’s just all like me working out and eating a whole bunch of protein and trying to get somewhere around that mark.”
Fields wants to get bigger so that he can fit the mold of the kind of defensive tackle Robertson has developed for the next level, should he decide on the Gamecocks.
“I like how honest he is,” Field said. “I like how he coaches, how he developed all of his players that came out of South Carolina going into the draft. That’s definitely one thing that stands out to me about him.”
Fields also has spring visits planned with Georgia Tech this Saturday, Louisville March 27th, Virginia Tech April 4th, Rutgers April 7th, Maryland April 9th, James Madison April 11th, and Auburn possibly on April 18th. He might also get to Georgia in April.
As for official visits, Fields also has a trip set with Louisville for May 29th. Rutgers and Maryland will receive late-June visits if next month’s visits go well. Georgia Tech may be set for an early-May official visit.
Fields has not trimmed his list, but when he does, South Carolina will have a spot on the board.
“They are in my top five for sure,” Fields said. “Not confirmed, but if I have to pick a top five, they would be in there for sure. I feel real good about them.”
In eight games last season, Fields had 25 tackles with 12 tackles for loss and three sacks, according to MaxPreps stats.
