A top offensive line target for South Carolina, OT Jaxon Elston (6-5 308) of Oxford, AL, has scheduled his official visit with the Gamecocks for June 5th. He also plans to take in a spring practice once the Gamecocks get back to work.
The Gamecocks just recently offered Elston with the Director of Recruiting for Offense, Sam Serbay, making the first contact, before new offensive line coach Randy Clements got involved. But the process really started through his former teammate, linebacker Keenan Britt, who signed with the Gamecocks in December and enrolled in January.
“I was talking to South Carolina for a while because Keenan, during the season, he was telling me that they wanted me to come down there,” Elston said. “He gave me Coach Serbay’s number and I texted him. I was planning on getting down there for a game, but I never got to. Just recently, me and Coach Serbay started talking more, and he got me in contact with the O-line coach, and they offered me and we’ve been building a relationship ever since.”
Elston and Clements have hit it off well through their long-distance conversations, and Elston is looking forward to meeting him and talking more when he makes his first ever visit to USC.
“He knows how to develop players and how to develop me into the best player I can be,” Elston said. “I want to come somewhere that will be able to develop me. He says I’m really athletic, quick and explosive. I can move in space very well. To be 320 pounds, I’m just very athletic.”
Elston has also set an official visit with Arkansas for May 29th. He also has offers from Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Missouri, Florida State, West Virginia, Auburn, Georgia, Purdue and others. South Carolina, however, definitely grabbed his attention with their offer.
“They are pretty high up on my board considering how much love they’ve been showing,” Elson said. “They are showing me how much they want me to be down there, and showing me how much better I can be from being down there and developing with them.”
And his former teammate, Britt, remains in his ear about the Gamecocks.
“He’s liking it really good. He loves it down there,” Elston said. “He was telling us how excited he was to get down there.”
