Clemson running backs coach CJ Spiller was known for his speed and cutting ability during his college and pro careers. When it comes to Woodruff RB Aiden Gibson (6-1 203), Spiller had been moving a little slower than other recruiters. But that’s changed now as he has picked up the pace and veered back into the picture with the 1300-yard rusher.
“We’ve just been creating a little bond and relationship overall for the last two weeks or so,” Gibson said. “He said they’re going to build a relationship with me because he knows he didn’t do that during the season. He’s just going to recruit me hard. And the assistant running back coach is recruiting me as well. We have created some bonds and have gotten closer overall.”
Clemson has not yet offered, and was not on Gibson’s short list that was released a little while back, but Spiller certainly has a chance to get back into the game, and he planned to visit with Gibson on Friday.
Pitt, Penn State, and UConn are some new schools to make contact with Gibson. He’s also still in touch with South Carolina as the Gamecocks have transitioned to new running backs coach Stan Drayton, who did not recruit Gibson when he was at Penn State.
“I just know they’ve got a lot going on as of right now, so I haven’t really talked to them as much,” Gibson said. “I’ve talked to them a few times I’d said. I haven’t really talked to anybody from South Carolina as much, but I know they’ve got some other recruiting things going on, like the Portal. Hopefully, the bond is still tight, because it is my way. I have talked to Coach Drayton and Coach (Shane) Beamer and all those guys.”
Gibson added that his first conversation with Drayton centered on each getting to know the other better.
“Coach Drayton, when I first talked to him, he was just telling me a little bit about himself. I told him a little bit about myself,” Gibson said. “He talked to me about things that he’s done, and who he’s brought in and coached. He was telling me he likes my film and he’s going to recruit me hard.”
Gibson believes USC remains very interested in him based on his conversations with Beamer and recruiting assistant Zach Propp.
Gibson has set a visit to Virginia Tech for January 24th. He might see Tennessee or Rutgers on January 31st. He is also down for North Carolina on February 28th. He also plans to pop over to Clemson and USC whenever they want him in for a visit.
Gibson has been running with a top ten of USC, Maryland, Rutgers, Appalachian State, NC State, Florida State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech and Indiana.
