The construction of the Clemson 2027 football recruiting class for coach Dabo Swinney started Wednesday with a commitment from LB Max Brown (6-1 214) of Jefferson, GA. Brown is the brother of Clemson sophomore linebacker Sammy Brown.
Despite his multiple Power Four offers and visits to other schools, the commitment to Clemson was seen as inevitable. All he needed was the offer, and he got that on June 1st.
It’s really like a different feeling than I’ve ever felt,” Brown said. “It really doesn’t feel real. It still doesn’t feel real. It’s just like a dream come true. Just watching Clemson growing up, those two national championship teams, and all the other consistently good teams, and just watching Dabo and knowing that he has the opportunity to be my coach soon. And then knowing Coach Ben Boulware, how prestigious he is in Clemson, and knowing that having somebody that’s been there, done that, and won a national championship, is going to be able to coach me at the same school that he played and won a national championship at. It’s just a great feeling.”
Brown is also excited about the opportunity to spend his young adult years in Clemson, a place that already holds a high level of comfort for him.
“Clemson’s always felt like another home to me,” Brown said. “I’ve been up there so many times, and it never gets old. It’s that small town feel that you don’t feel anywhere else, and it just feels like a place that I can go home very easily.”
Brown is no slouch himself as a linebacker. Last season he totaled 152 tackles with 14 tackles for loss and two sacks. He believes getting the chance to be coached by Boulware will make him an even better player.
“Boulware is a great coach and like I said, having somebody that’s been there, done that and just got to the final prize of the game at the same school that he’s coaching at, it’s just a whole other level of good, because he’s probably been in the same situation that you’ve been in. Say you’re in a slump, or say you’re in a little mental hole, or just say you’re hurt or whatnot, he’s been there at the same school at the same time. It’s just a very great coach, and he’s on top of all that. He’s just a great guy.”
Some of Brown’s other offers included Arkansas, Auburn, Duke, Louisville, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Michigan, Florida, Indiana, Georgia Tech and LSU.
Clemson Wednesday is likely to land another 2026 commitment in OL Leo Delaney of Charlotte. He made his official visit last weekend and is set to make his commitment announcement at 4:00 PM.
