#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks lose tight end commitment Preston Douglas to NC State

Preston Douglas

South Carolina now has an opening in their 2025 recruiting class for a tight end. Preston Douglas (6-4 220) of North Palm Beach, FL announced through his so-called NIL agent Kevin Anderson of Reach NIL that he is now a North Carolina State pledge.

Douglas was one of the early members of the Gamecocks’ 2025 class committing five days after his official visit the weekend of June 7th. He chose the Gameoccks over NC State at that time and actually cancelled a planned official visit with the Wolfpack. He had also visited USC and NC State unofficially before his commitment.

“Ever since my unofficial visit, these coaches made me feel at home,” Douglas said following his commitment. “I believe they can take my game and maximize it and ultimately get me to the next level. I loved going to Coach Beamer’s house and spending time with the coaches and meeting the players. I also loved just being with the staff and growing the relationship.”

Apparently, the Gamecock staff started feeling otherwise about Douglas as Hale McGranahan of TheBigSpur reported this separation had been in the works for a couple of weeks.

The Gamecocks are now focused on landing Hammond tight end Mike Tyler who has been committed to LSU since August. Tyler has been to a pair of USC games this season and is expected back for the Texas A&M game this Saturday.

Douglas is the third decommitment USC has suffered in the 2025 class. LB Jaiden Braker is now committed to LSU and CB Shamari Earls is committed to Georgia. Douglas’ deletion leaves the Gamecocks with 20 commitments in their 2025 class.
