Grayson McCall, who in four seasons helped to lead Coastal Carolina to its greatest success in football, announced his retirement from the sports Wednesday night due to ongoing health concerns related to multiple concussions.
McCall transferred to NC State for his final season of eligibility but played in only four games before being sidelined by another concussion. He was limited to seven games in 20223 at Coastal because of injuries.
In four seasons as the starter at Coastal Carolina, three under Jamie Chadwell and one under Tim Beck, McCall passed for 10,005 yards with 88 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He completed 69.9 percent of his pass attempts. He also rushed for 1113 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Chants.
McCall plans to pursue a career as a football coach.
