South Carolina landed another top in-state prospect for the 2026 class Thursday evening when standout safety J’Zavien Currence (6-3 190) of South Pointe announce a commitment to the Gamecocks. He’s the fifth commitment for the 2026 class for USC and the second from South Pointe joining offensive lineman Anthony Baxter.
Currence is a national-level recruit. His offer listed included Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Southern Cal, Ole Miss, Florida, Florida State, North Carolina and others.
Currence has been a frequent visitor to USC. He was in for the spring game, a recruiting event in late July and the Ole Miss game earlier this month.
“They reach out almost every day,” Currence said earlier this year referencing the Gamecocks’ recruiting effort. “Good to hear from Coach (Torrian) Gray, Coach (Shane) Beamer. The inspirational coach (Derrick Moore), he sends me a text keeping me updated with practice and things like that. There’s a lot of love coming from them. Coach Gray talks about my work ethic a lot and things like that. I think I’ll fit in more at safety, but he said he’s going to keep me at corner until he says I go to safety.”
Currence and Baxter will join an impressive list of South Pointe players who have played for the Gamecocks. Former Stallions include Jadeveon Clowney, Stephon Gilmore and Devonte Holloman. Each was recruited as one of the best players in the country at his position, and in the case of Clowney, as the overall top prospect in the country.
