#STRecruiting: Laurens native McGowan joining parade of transfers to #Gamecocks

Jayden McGowan

Wednesday afternoon, former Laurens standout WR Jayden McGowan (5-8 180), announced he will transfer to USC from Vanderbilt. He is the third Transfer Portal prospect who visited last weekend to announce plans to enroll at USC in January. An announcement from a fourth, RB Rocket Sanders of Arkansas, is expected at any time per reports from recruiting websites.

McGowan was overlooked by the Gamecocks and Clemson coming out of Laurens High School and signed with Vandy. In two seasons with the Commodores, he caught 80 passes for 836 yards and 3 touchdowns. His speed in the slot should make him a valuable addition to the Gamecock offense.

“They said I’m going to be in the slot, but he said I’m going to be used multiple ways,” McGowan said last week after receiving his offer from receivers coach Justin Stepp. “I can see myself moving around going outside, into the backfield, things like that.”

McGowan added that the fans have only gotten a glimpse of what he can do in an offense.

“I feel like there’s a lot more for me to show,” McGowan said. “I’m proud of my ability and I feel I can show more on film and even on the stat sheet. I just want to keep doing that in the future.”

McGowan pushes the number of scholarship newcomers for the USC program for 2024 to 21.
