Clemson Sunday notched a major in-state recruiting victory over South Carolina with a public commitment from 2025 DT Amare Adams (6-6 280) of South Florence. Practically all of the recruiting coverage of Adams by the website analysts had the Gamecocks as the strong favorite with Georgia next in line. But outside of stating a top seven last summer, Adams never gave a hint about who his real favorite was.
Those top seven were Clemson, USC, Georgia, LSU, Alabama, Florida State and Tennessee. Adams camped at USC, was at the spring game and was also at multiple games this season, including the Clemson game. He also camped last summer at Clemson and was also at a game in Death Valley this season.
Clemson defensive tackles coach Nick Eason handled the recruiting of Adams for the Tigers and obviously convinced him playing for him on the Tigers’ defensive front was the best move.
“I’ve kind of been knowing them for a long time because when I was a kid, I used to go to their camps,” Adams said last week. “What sticks out to me is he rotates D-linemen on almost every play of almost every drive, so that’s one thing I like about it. You can get an opportunity to play.”
Adams said what Eason will have in him as a tough, physical defensive lineman who can move.
“What coaches say they like about me is my motor and how I get off the ball and things like that,” Adams said. “I play really everywhere. I play three-tech and sometimes I play outside, and head over tackle sometimes.”
Adams finished his junior season Saturday night with a loss in the 4A State Championship game to Westside in which he had four tackles and a tackle for loss He finished the season with 60 tackles and four sacks.
Adams becomes the second commitment of the weekend for Clemson in the 2025 class. Saturday night receiver JuJu Preston announced his pledge. Adams also is the first defensive player to commit to Clemson for 2025.
