The defending national champion USC women’s basketball team, the #1 seed for the NCAA Tournament, and winners of 38 straight games and 40 straight home games, take their first steps toward Dallas and the Final Four Friday afternoon in Columbia against Norfolk State. The Gamecocks won’t have to travel far to punch their ticket to the Lone Star state. If all goes well for them, they’ll play two games in Columbia and two more in Greenville before heading west.
USC is 32-0 and the heavy favorite to go back to back for national titles. First up for them Friday will be MEAC champion Norfolk State. The winner will face either South Florida or Marquette in the second round on Sunday.
Thursday USC head coach Dawn Staley along with Kierra Fletcher and Victaria Saxton met with the media at the Colonial Life Arena to preview the tournament opener.
