Going into the 2022 season, there were several questions regarding Coastal Carolina football. How would the Chanticleers replace their linebackers and offensive linemen lost to graduation? Who would step-up as QB Grayson McCall’s “go-to” receiver after Isaiah Likely was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens? And finally, could CCU continue its winning ways?
You can cross the last question off the list as Coastal enters Saturday’s “Homecoming” date with Sun Belt newcomer ODU at 6-0 on the season and riding the nation’s second-longest active FBS winning streak. The Chanticleers have won nine straight, matching UCLA’s nine consecutive victories. Only Clemson has a longer streak as the Tigers have won twelve in a row heading into Saturday’s trip to FSU.
On Wednesday, CCU head coach Jamey Chadwell held his weekly press conference to preview the matchup with the Monarchs. ODU is 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in the Sun Belt with a win over Virginia Tech and a narrow two-point loss at UVA. Old Dominion leads the all-time series one game to none, with the only previous meeting occurring during the 2012 FCS playoffs. In that game, the Monarchs scored thirty-five second half points to pull away for a 63-35 victory. Kickoff for Saturday’s “Homecoming” contest is set for 12pm at Brooks Stadium in Conway and will be televised by ESPNU.
