Dawn Staley and the #Gamecocks are ready for the “Border Battle” with UNC (AUDIO)

Aliyah Boston and the Gamecocks have been tremendous on the defensive end of the floor thus far in the NCAA tournament

The USC women’s basketball team will face North Carolina on Friday in the “Sweet 16” round of the NCAA Greensboro Regional. The #1-Gamecocks have not been challenged in their two NCAA games thus far, allowing a total of 54 points in wins over Howard and Miami. Further, the Bison and Hurricanes combined to shoot 19 of 100 from the field against USC’s swarming defense.

On Thursday, head coach Dawn Staley, along with players Aliyah Boston and Zia Cooke met with the media to discuss the next phase of their NCAA tournament journey. The matchup with UNC will mark the 10th meeting all-time between the two schools. UNC boasts a 6-3 lead in the series, though the Gamecocks won the most recent matchup, 67-65 back in 2015. Coincidentally, that was also a meeting in Greensboro during the “Sweet 16” round of the NCAA tournament.

The 5th seeded Tarheels posted a 79-66 victory over Stephen F. Austin in the first round, before pulling off a 63-45 upset of the #3-seed Arizona in the “Round of 32”. Friday night’s tipoff is set for 7pm and will be televised nationally by ESPN.
