#CCU baseball coach Gary Gilmore previews the season on #SportsTalk (AUDIO)

Cooper Weiss and the Chanticleers were picked third in the Sun Belt Conference preseason coaches poll (CCU Athletics)

2021 was a subpar year for Coastal Carolina baseball as the Chanticleers posted a 27-24 campaign, while failing to reach the NCAA baseball tournament. Further, with head coach Gary Gilmore facing his own battle off the field against pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer, the Chanticleers experienced more than their share of challenges last season.

So, as the page turns to the 2022 season in a couple of weeks, CCU is hoping to reclaim its spot as one of the top baseball programs in the country. Despite being picked third in the Sun Belt Conference preseason coaches poll, Gilmore believes he’s got a lineup card full of talent with a pitching staff to boot.

On Tuesday, the veteran head coach dropped by SportsTalk to recap the start of preseason practice. He also detailed why he likes not being the hunted in the SBC, while taking time to discuss his health and what’s ahead in his ongoing battle with cancer.
