Frank Martin readies the #Gamecocks for tipoff (AUDIO)

Wildens Leveque and the Gamecocks are looking to rebound from a 6-15 campaign last season

It’s game week for USC men’s basketball as the Gamecocks host Benedict on Thursday in an exhibition contest. Carolina will try and put last year’s dismal season in the rear view mirror. A campaign that was plagued by Covid-19 issues, a poor record, and rumors surrounding the future of head coach Frank Martin.

On Monday, Martin visited with the media to preview this week’s exhibition and the start of the regular season next Tuesday against USC-Upstate. Martin said that both Keyshawn Bryant and Jermaine Couisnard are a little “nicked up right now.” Adding, “I doubt that either will play on Thursday. If that game counted, they’re both healthy enough to play.”

The veteran head coach also noted how some of the newcomers to the program; like James Reese and Erik Stevenson, have displayed plenty of vocal leadership during the preseason. “You’ve got to bring it or you’re getting called out, if you don’t bring it in practice everyday. That’s fun to be around.”

Thursday’s exhibition with the Tigers is set to begin at 7pm from Colonial Life Arena in Columbia.
