#STRecruting: Texas safety Peyton Williams commits to #Gamecocks

Peyton Williams

USC added another piece to its future defense Monday morning with a commitment from three-star safety Peyton Williams (6-0 180) of Rockwall, TX. His commitment comes the day after DT Jamaal Whyce of Miami went public with his Gamecock pledge. Williams is ranked the #65 safety nationally by 247Sports.

Williams visited USC unofficially over the weekend and saw enough to where he feels the future is bright for the Gamecocks under Shane Beamer, and he wants to be a part of his building process.

“Whenever we sat down and talked with Coach Beamer, he’s trying to build a culture, change things up,” Williams said. “I know is goal is to win national championships. I love the facilities down there. I love the coaches down there. I love the area. I think we’re going to go win, build a culture there and have fun. They are here to win, here to have a family and have good academics.”

Williams also spent plenty of time with secondary coach Torrian Gray who showed him how he would be used in their defense.

“I got a chance to see how Coach Gray actually coaches,” Williams said. “I think I will fit in good with their defense. They have a good defensive back coach and he’ll be able to break it down for me. He said he liked my ability to get around the field, my open field tackling and just me as a player. He said he’d probably put me around everywhere in the type of defense they run, be everywhere and versatile.”

Williams also took an official visit to Maryland this month. He also had offers from Michigan State, Colorado, Florida State, Michigan, New Mexico, Akron and North Texas.

Williams said he will return to USC in the fall for the Vanderbilt game for his official visit. He’s the Gamecocks’ 7th commitment for the 2022 class.
