#STRecruiting: #Gamecocks make final pitch to Platel

Carlins Platel

Assumption University transfer cornerback Carlins Platel (6-2 190) has set 1:00 PM Wednesday for his commitment announcement via Twitter. USC, Mississippi State and Coastal Carolina are his final three schools. He had multiple conversations with coaches from all three, and he did virtual visits with all three.

The final one of those was with USC on Tuesday afternoon.

“It went great,” Platel said. “I really like the school and what they’ve got going on down there. Got a lot to think about. We went over the facilities, the school, academics. We went over everything about the school and more.”

Platel has learned plenty about the Gamecocks and the defensive schemes new coordinator Clayton White will use. He’s talked a lot with secondary coach Torrian Gray about how he would be deployed. The virtual visit gave him a chance for a deeper dive into some of the other important aspects of the program.

“A lot stood out,” he said. “How they go about there nutrition program and strength programs. They really take care of you and your body. Also, the atmosphere of the coaches, and the stadium.”

Platel said his decision will come down to one simple factor.

“Just thinking about where I think is the best place for me,” Platel said. “All the schools have great opportunities, but it’s where I feel more comfortable.”

Platel is a native of Massachusetts. He played three seasons at Assumption, which did not have a season in 2020 due to Covid. He will have one season of eligibility at his next school.
