Top-ranked USC Women knock off #21 Gonzaga 79-72 (AUDIO)

USC improved to 2-0 on the young season Sunday afternoon, and ran its winning streak to 29 games, with a 79-72 win over #21 Gonzaga in the championship game of the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic held in Sioux Falls, SD. Destanni Henderson led the Gamecocks with a career high 22 points, all in the second half, and Zia Cooke added 16 points.

Henderson was named the tournament’s MVP. She had 19 points and 9 rebounds in the opening round win over South Dakota.

Gonzaga led 66-65 with 3:25 to play. Henderson hit a pair of free throws to give USC the lead and start a 9-0 run that made it 74-66 with 1:33 remaining.

USC won the rebounding battle, including 15 on the offensive boards that were converted into 18 points.

The Gamecocks return home to face #8 NC State Thursday night.
