South Carolina coach Shane Beamer Tuesday did his best to keep things in perspective coming off of the 57-0 win over Kent State last Saturday. His team played well and dominated every facet of the game. He also knows the Gamecocks were far from perfect and have plenty of areas to improve on this week, with Towson coming in for a Saturday night game.
Beamer did have positive news on offensive tackle Jacarrius Peak and defensive end Dylan Stewart. Both practiced in pads for the first time Tuesday morning and had contact, so each is a step closer to being ready to play. Beamer called them doubtful for this week.
Beamer also announced the suspension of freshman tight end Caden Ramsey, who was arrested earlier Monday morning on a charge of racing on a public road. Ramsey was one of three people arrested, according to the incident report released Tuesday afternoon. An officer clocked Ramsey and the driver of a second car as driving 113 MPH while weaving through traffic.
Here’s a report from WCIV TV in Charleston
Key Comments from Beamer
- Thanks to the fans for selling out the stadium, lot of recruits were impressed by that considering the heat.
- Nothing new to report on injuries, Peak and Stewart practiced today in full pads and had contact, they are doubtful for this week but optimistic about next week.
- Towson has their respect, coach there has been a coach for a long time and has won a lot of games, lot of respect for Pete Shinnick. He’s 18-18 at Towson, 177-85 overall.
- Has to respect the quarterback for Towson, Andrew Indorf, has a strong arm and can throw deep, CAA co-Rookie of the Year last year with 16 touchdown passes to 4 picks.
- Towson puts a lot of emphasis on special teams and will try a lot of trickery and different looks with the kicking squads.
- Sanchez was in practice today, and he and Kelley kicked the ball well, and the competition for that spot continues.
- Met with Caden Ramsey this morning, right now he’s suspended, extremely disappointing, that’s not his nature knowing him, not had an issue with him since he’s been here, he understands he made a mistake.
- Wants to see improvement this week. Had good offense last week, do it two weeks in a row, had some plays they’d like to have back.
