Some of the key comments from the Shane Beamer conference call
- A great road win in one of the country’s toughest environments. Proud of the team and the response they had all week and during the game.
- The team answered when they fell behind a couple of times, and winning the turnover battle was huge.
- Everybody who left the game with an injury yesterday is expected back for Tennessee; the only one who is a question right now is Quay’Sheed Scott who will have more testing this week.
- Everyone in the program was off today, and they will work Monday through Wednesday; then players will be off until next Sunday. Coaches will recruit on Thursday and Friday.
- Thought Stewart was awesome; his impact on the game is evident, and he did a great job against the pass and also did a good job against the run, fitting gaps.
- Referring to the Sellers-Bennett exchange early in the game, speaks to the team culture: they are a bunch of brothers, loves the fire and passion of his players, and players can say things to one another and not allow things to fracture.
- Have to continue to develop depth at wide receiver during the open week; Patterson is one guy they are excited about moving forward, and Cyrus continues to practice well.
- Need to develop more corners, thought Leach did a good job stepping in for Judge yesterday, Stewart is not necessarily on a snap count, but his conditioning is coming along, and they just want to rotate more guys in at those positions.
- Blessed to be here and understands the criticism he received with the 2-3 start; saw his dad go through it at Virginia Tech in a different way, but learned things are never as bad or as good as they seem.
- Excited about Briles and what he’s brought to the offense; he’s a team guy and one you want in the foxhole with you; he’s not one of those OCs who is only concerned with scoring points. The offensive staff dynamic is the best it’s ever been, and the same for the entire staff.
