Momentum continues to build for the South Carolina 2027 football recruiting class. Thursday night, CB Kelvin Millington (6-4 185) of Bogart, GA, announced his commitment to the Gamecocks while attending the Opening Finals in Beaverton, OR. He had actually committed to Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer early last week.

Millington gives the Gamecocks four commitments over the last eight days, and four more of their top targets will be making announcements between Sunday and next Friday.

Millington’s only official visit was to USC, so he had pretty much turned his attention towards the Gamecocks over the past few weeks. He had also considered taking visits to Texas Tech and Virginia Tech. Some of his other offers were Wake Forest, Cincinnati, East Carolina, Navy, Pitt, Georgia Tech, and Coastal Carolina.

He and Gamecock secondary coach Torrian Gray developed a strong relationship that could not be rattled by other recruiters.

“It was Coach Gray. It was Coach Gray and then the family that they built around them, with them reaching out to me and texting me almost every day,” Millington said during his announcement via 247Sports. “It really felt like I’ve had that connection. I had my family members in there as well. So it really felt like a really big family to me. Also, Coach Gray has a track record with tall, long DBs like myself; it was very awesome to see. And the guys he puts in the league as well and develops them was the main thing for me.”

“He really liked my length and my speed,” Millington said recently about Gray. “He was showed me clips of the corners playing press man. He would say, see right here, this is where you would play as a corner in our program. He also showed me the development process, from taking one of the players who wasn’t that good when they first arrived to developing him. He was showing how this was him on the first day of spring, and then this was him on the last day of spring. You could see that the development was very impactful.”

Millington gives Gray a very tall defender to move around in his secondary.

“He’s going to play me at corner first, and then I’m going to have to prove to them that I’m not going to be able to play corner. And then they’ll be like, all right, sweet, we can move you to safety or nickel,” Millington said. “Or if the corner depth is really long, they have like five to eight corners, and I won’t see the field, but at safety, if I’m better than whoever’s at safety, they’ll move me to safety. They like to say I’m just a DB in general, and I feel like this would be a great spot because Coach Gray coaches all the DBs, all the secondary. So I think it will be easier for me to move to a different position, having that flexibility with Coach Gray being in control of all of the secondary.”

Millington added that Beamer also had impact on him.

“When I was there, and I was just around him, he made the effort to make me feel important,” Millington said. “I watched a little Netflix series on the team and stuff. I saw how he was after a terrible loss, a gut-wrenching loss. He was still able to come back to his family and be a father. So if he’s able to do that and his life doesn’t completely 100% revolve around football, I know that’s a great person who’s going to be able to lead me.”

As he signed off his announcement, Millington also had a message for Gamecock fans.

“You just landed a dog,” he said. “I’m going to work as hard as I can. And this decision is going to be the best decision for the South Carolina Gamecocks. Y’all are going to see me making plays next year. And if it’s not next year, it’s going to be the year after. I’m going to be making plays. Don’t you worry.”

Last season, Millington had 62 tackles with 14 pass breakups and three interceptions. He gives the Gamecocks 12 commitments, two on the defensive side.
