The work is not yet done on the 2027 recruiting class, yet South Carolina has taken that first step in building the 2028 class. Tuesday night, WR Jet Gibbs (6-2 195) of Burlington, NC, committed to Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer, and Gibbs made the commitment public on Wednesday morning.
Gibbs visited USC on March 28th, and he was also back for camp in June. The Gamecocks offered him on June 2nd, and that was enough for him to move forward with a decision.
“Honestly, just the relationships with the coaches and me growing up being a South Carolina fan,” Gibbs told SportsTalkSC about why he chose the Gamecocks over several other Power Four programs. “That’s been my dream school all my life, and I feel at home. It’s always a great vibe there, so I fit in. I got that feeling that this is where I wanna go, and no other school can turn my head.”
Gibbs also has offers from Florida, North Carolina, NC State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Rutgers, and others. He also camped this summer at Clemson and North Carolina.
Gibbs is also one of the top track athletes in North Carolina, with a recorded 40-yard dash speed of 4.33 seconds. He was also part of a state championship 400-meter relay team.
