A surprising addition to South Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class on Tuesday, when OL James Ross Jr. (6-5 290) of Ridge View announced a commitment to the Gamecocks. Ross had flown largely under the recruiting radar until showing up at a USC camp on June 8th and impressing the coaches enough to land an offer.
“They said I was the best out there, you know, one-on-ones, did what I had to do,” Ross said. “I tried to be the best. I’ve always wanted to play for the Gamecocks since I was a little kid. It’s going to be a good experience. I’m ready to work for them. They said I could play any position on the line, that I was very athletic. Obviously, some things I still need to work on, but I could play any position on the line.”
Ross, who said the Gamecock coaches see him as a center, took official visits to Appalachian State and Charlotte, and he will take one to USC during the season.
“I feel amazing,” Ross said. “I never thought this would happen, but I put the work in. So, I’m just happy that this is happening to me.”
Ross committed to Gamecock head coach Shane Beamer on Monday and accounts for the commitment alert Beamer publicized at that time.
The Gamecocks now have 10 commitments for their 2027 class, including four on the offensive line.
