The winning continued for Shane Beamer on Sunday. After watching his team beat 11th-ranked Tennessee on Saturday inside a Williams-Brice Stadium packed with top recruiting targets, Beamer finally won over DT Nate Kamba (6-3 300) of Charlotte.
Kamba strongly considered the Gamecocks last summer before committing to Auburn following his official visits to both programs in June. The Gamecocks, however, did not stop recruiting Kamba, and that effort, along with what Kamba saw on Saturday, led the coveted defensive lineman to switch his commitment to the Gamecocks on Sunday.
During the height of his recruitment, Kamba also had offers from Ohio State, Virginia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Michigan State, Southern Cal, Georgia, Missouri, and others.
Throughout his recruiting, Kamba has always been high on Beamer and defensive line coach Travian Robertson.
“They are wonderful people,” he said after his official visit. “Of course, me and Coach Robertson talk every day. I haven’t seen him in a while in person, so it was fun to see him again. And Coach Beamer, he’s a wonderful guy. He loves to compete, and that’s something about South Carolina. They love to compete. They care about the players; they care about the community.”
And one thing Robertson did while recruiting Kamba was to lay out his plan for him as part of his defensive front.
“They’re going to put me in the best situation for me to make plays,” Kamba said. “And one thing about good about Coach T Rob, all of his drills and everything they do with practice translates in the game. So you’re not just going to do some random thing in a drill and practice. He’s going to put us in the right position to make plays and to get sacks.”
Kamba is a big impact defensive tackle. This season, he has 26 tackles with 16 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
Kamba becomes the second defensive tackle commitment for the 2027 class and the 18th commitment overall.
