Opening Day: Scobey walks it off for Gamecocks in game two as USC sweeps doubleheader from Northern Kentucky 5-2 & 6-5 (AUDIO)

USC 5-Northern Kentucky 2 Game Summary

In the season opener at Founders Park, USC took a 5-0 lead to the top of the ninth thanks to a pair of fifth-inning home runs, a leadoff shot by Patrick Evans, and a two-run blast by Dawson Harman.
Talmadage LeCroy delivered the next two runs for the Gamecocks with a double in the sixth and a single in the eighth. He had three hits in the game.
Riley Goodman and Josh Gunther (1-0) combined for a five-hit shutout into the ninth, when Gunther allowed a pair of runs on three hits. Alex Valentin got the final two outs for the save.
Gamecock hitters were struck out just one time in the game. USC second baseman Erik Parker committed the game’s only error.

USC trailed early 2-1. then took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run single to right by Tyler Bak.
The Norse responded with a three-run top of the eighth, on a two-run homer and a sac fly off of reliever Parker Marlatt, for a 5-3 lead.
USC rallied for a second time in the bottom of the eighth. After two were out, the Gamecocks loaded the bases, and on a 2-2 pitch, Bak singled to center, driving in the tying runs.
Elijah Foster (1-0) came on to pitch the ninth for USC. With two on and two out, he got a fly ball to left to end the threat.
KJ Scobey led off for the Gamecocks in the bottom of the ninth, and after falling behind in the count 0-2, he ripped a home run to left field for the game winner. It was his third hit of the game.
Amp Phillips started for USC and went 3.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, striking out seven, and walking three. Logan Prisco, Connor Chicoli, and Zach Russell did not allow a run and gave up just three hits over the next 3.1 innings.
The teams will complete the three-game series on Saturday afternoon.
