SEC baseball coaches Thursday released their pre-season ranking and voted USC 4th in the East behind Florida, Tennessee and Vanderbilt. Arkansas was the choice to win the overall league championship.
The Gamecocks are a consensus top 25 pick in the pre-season rankings, and their goal is to go one step farther than last season when they lost at Florida in two games of a Super Regional.
USC has not been to the College World Series since their three-year run from 2010-2013, but the Gamecocks feel they have the right stuff to make it back this season. One of the leaders will be Pre-Season All-American catcher Cole Messina. He’s coming off a season in which he hit .307 with 17 home runs and 65 RBIs.
