South Carolina baseball is off to another good start, as the 20th-ranked Gamecocks are 14-3 overall following a 4-3 victory over Georgia State on Tuesday. However, you can make the argument that Carolina hasn’t been thoroughly tested during non-conference play. Aside from dropping two games to arch-rival Clemson, USC didn’t have to break much of a sweat in weekend sweeps of Miami of Ohio and Longwood, along with a two-out-of-three series win versus Belmont. Expect the tension to change dramatically starting Friday.
That’s because SEC play is upon us, and the Gamecocks will begin their thirty-game conference slate in Oxford, Mississippi, against Ole Miss. The Rebels are 13-5 on the season and will carry a seven-game winning streak into Friday’s 7:30 p.m. ET first pitch.
On Wednesday, USC head coach Mark Kingston met with the media to preview the Gamecocks’ SEC opener at Ole Miss. He also gave an injury update and where he believes his team is after seventeen non-conference games.
