Colonial Life Arena: Top-ranked South Carolina tuned up for their highly anticipated matchup with 11th ranked UConn Sunday afternoon with an easy 83-45 win over Missouri Thursday night at the Colonial Life Arena. The Tigers scored the game’s first six points, and then it was over.
The Gamecocks went on a 14-2 run and finished the quarter with a 21-10 lead. They led 48-21 at halftime and 70-38 after three quarters.
This was the first game for USC without star center Kamilla Cardosa who is with her Brazillian National Team at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament. Her absence was not felt as the Gamecocks outscored Missouri 44-8 in the paint and ourtrebounded the Tigers 47-33.
USC held Missouri to 28% shooting. The Gamecocks forced 21 turnovers, outscored the Tigers 28-0 off turnovers, created 15 steals and blocked 11 shots.
MiLaysia Fulwiley led four Gamecocks in double figures with 19 points. She also had six steals and four assists. Chloe Kitts added 12 points, eight rebounds and six blocks.
The Gamecocks also played without reserve freshman forward Sahnya Jah who was suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. Coach Dawn Staley said after the game Jah’s status will be evaluated on a day by day basis.
The Gamecocks are 22-0 overall and 10-0 in the SEC. Their winning streaks were extended to 22 straight overall, 53 straight at home, 41 straight SEC games and 36 straight SEC home games.
