Spring football practice at South Carolina rolls on. Nine practices are in the books. Number ten will be Thursday, and number eleven will be a scrimmage Saturday at Williams-Brice Stadium. All of this is leading up to the Garnet and Black Spring Game April 20th in Columbia.
Tuesday, head coach Shane Beamer held his weekly spring practice question and answer session with the media, after which he put out a commitment alert. He said his team had some bumps and bruises, and some guys will be held out of the spring game, but there’s nothing long term involved.
Beamer also said this past Saturday’s scrimmage, to the surprise of no one, was dominated by the defense, which he believes will be very good. He said none of the quarterbacks have separated from the pack, and all were live during the scrimmage. He said he liked the running ability of all the quarterbacks, and he felt Robby Ashford threw the ball well.
Beamer also cited the scrimmage performance of freshman receiver Mazeo Bennett, and noted that Jaron Brown also had a big catch. Though the offense did not have a great day, he did not feel the line was terrible, they were just going up against a very good defense.
Beamer also confirmed reserve walk-on offensive tackle Jaxon Hughes has informed him of his plans to transfer.
