#Gamecocks coach Shane Beamer introduces Mike Furrey as new receivers coach (AUDIO)

South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer Friday held another assistant coach introductory press conference, and it would appear this will be the last time Beamer has to hold such a press conference for the 2024 staff. After the sudden departure of James Coley to Georgia last weekend, Beamer conducted a quick search and hired Limestone head coach Mike Furrey as his new receivers coach.

Some notes from Beamer’s press conference:

• They just finished up their last winter workout last night, spring break is next week, they’ve gotten bigger and faster, more athletic, love what he has seen from his guys.
• Didn’t expect to be here again announcing a new WR coach, Coley made decision he felt was best for his family, they received the buyout of his contract and hired someone he thinks is an even better receivers coach in Furrey.
• He’s been a little disappointed in the development of the freshmen receivers they have signed under him, so he was looking to upgrade in that area, too many drops last season as well, best receivers have been ones he inherited from previous staff or taken from Portal.
• Furrey has made wide receivers better everywhere he has coached.
• Furrey was at work on the field with his new players at USC five minutes after walking into the building Thursday, working in street clothes with his receivers. He’s made the group better already.
• Got to know Furrey some last summer when he brought his son to his camp and they talked in his office, and he walked away from that feeling there’s something different about him, and he felt he’d be someone he’d like to have on staff one day.
• Wants people who want to be here. People move on to head coaching jobs, someone moves to what they think is a better situation, so be it. He is on a mission to win a championship at South Carolina, and he wants people with him who believe in the same mission.
• His job is not to sit around and worry about who doesn’t want to be here, his job is to find the best people who want to be there.
• When he saw Georgia had a receivers position open, he thought they might reach out to Coley, he talked to Smart on Saturday, he talked to Coley Thursday, Friday and Saturday before he left.
