Bahama Mama: South Carolina opens two-game trip to the Bahamas with a 94-81 victory (AUDIO)

South Carolina Men’s Basketball pulled away from Victoria (Canada), 94-81, in its opening game of the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League in Nassau, Bahamas. The Gamecocks outscored the Vikes 52-41 in the second half en route to the win.

South Carolina was able to shoot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half, finishing the game 49.3 percent overall. In addition, the Gamecocks connected on seven made threes and shot 21-of-25 from the charity stripe. South Carolina distributed the ball well in the first game of the trip, finishing the contest with 23 assists on 33 made field goals.

Defensively, the Garnet & Black forced 18 turnovers (13 steals) during the game and held the Vikes to just 16 made field goals in the second half.

Kory Mincy led all scorers with 18 points, including 16 in the first half. The George Mason transfer scored 14 of his 18 points in the final seven minutes of the first half to push the Gamecocks ahead 42-40 at the intermission.

The Gamecocks came out of the locker room and went on a 27-14 run through the first eight minutes of play in the second half, forcing a Vikes timeout with a 69-54 advantage. South Carolina held Victoria at arm’s length the rest of the game, never relinquishing the double-digit advantage as the Gamecocks cruised to the 13-point win.

Four more Gamecocks scored in double figures alongside Mincy (18), including transfers Camden Heide (13), Aleksas Bieliauskas (12) and Shane Blakeney (12). Sophomore returner Hayden Assemian added 10 points and a team-high eight boards to his stat line.

Spain native Hugo López played just nine minutes but was able to post eight points and six rebounds. Grant Polk registered nine points and contributed with three boards and a team-high three steals. Alabama transfer Davion Hannah also filled up the stat sheet with eight points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals.

The Gamecocks will play their final game in the Baha Mar Hoops Summer League on Monday at 4 p.m. (ET) against The Bahamas National Team. There will be live stats provided by StatBroadcast, and the contest will be streamed live on the FloSports Channel on Amazon Prime.
