#STRecruiting: Addison says check back on him Friday

Sumter DE Anthony Addison (6-3 215) made another visit to South Carolina Saturday to watch the Gamecocks’ first major scrimmage of the spring. Tennessee wants him to visit this coming Saturday, but he said he’s probably going to return to Columbia. He also hinted at some news to come from him this Friday.

“I ain’t want to say too much, I’m just saying tune in to my Twitter Friday.”

Could that news be a commitment to the Gamecocks? Addison wouldn’t give a hint, but he said USC is the strong leader for him at this point, and this past visit just added to their grip on him.

“I like South Carolina.  That was just another visit,” Addison said.  “They’ve told me I can come up anytime, so I went up there and got to watch them practice, and just strengthened my relationship with the coaches even more.  Got to get to know some of the players a whole lot better.  It was a good visit.”

Addison spends a lot of time talking with USC defensive ends coach Sterling Lucas. He’s also getting a lot of contact from head coach Shane Beamer.

“Coach Beamer’s message basically is that the University of South Carolina got everything I need, so there’s no need for me to go out of the state because South Carolina has it all right there,” Addison said.  “He wants to win with South Carolina guys, that’s why they are recruiting me.  I like that he wants to win with South Carolina guys.  That’s why I like South Carolina.”

Addison is regarded as one of the state’s top defensive prospects after a junior season of 96 tackles with 25 tackles for loss and six sacks. From his conversations with Lucas, he has good idea on how he would be use in the Gamecock defense.

“I’ll just go in and play defensive end,” Addison said.  “I know how they plan on using me, and I know I can fit into their system.  Edge rusher.  I feel like I could be versatile at South Carolina, I won’t just be at a standard position.  Coach Lucas, I feel like he’ll move me around and let me do more than one thing.”

Addison has also taken spring visits to Florida State and Georgia. He is scheduled for an official visit to Duke June 7th, and he has USC scheduled for an official visit June 21st.
