Powdersville wins first 3A Boys title; Camden dominates for fifth 3A Girls Championship (AUDIO)

FLORENCE CENTER: Powdersville held off Darlington for a 53-47 victory in the 3A Boys State Championship Game, Saturday.

Junior guard Jaleel McGee led the Patriots with 18 points and four assists. Gamecocks commit Hayden Assemian added 12 points, four assists and a game-high 11 rebounds. Powdersville led by as many as 13, but Darlington mounted multiple comebacks and closed to within three on Keenan Dubose’s 3-pointer with 31 seconds left. Dubose, an all-state performer, kept his club in it with 27 points and eight rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as Powdersville was able to hang on and claim the school’s first state title.

Following the game, Powdersville head coach Austin Anderson said his team had learned how to close out and hold leads through the course of the season, “Learning those lessons, especially early, really helped us out right here.”

3A Girls State Championship

Camden won its fifth 3A Girls State Championship in dominant fashion in Florence, Saturday. With Dawn Staley on hand to see Gamecocks signee and South Carolina State Player of the Year Joyce Edwards, Camden won its second consecutive title, 44-22 over Wren. Edwards, also a McDonald’s All-American, capped her brilliant high school career with 27 points, 20 rebounds and six blocks.
