New class of honorees for the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association “Hall of Fame”

The South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association announced its “Hall of Fame” class for 2025 on Monday. This year’s inductees include Darryl Nance of Wade Hampton HS, Reggie McLain of Keenan HS, Jackie Roberts of Westside HS, and Zeke Washington of Blythewood HS.

Inductees’ Bios:

COACH DARRYL NANCE: Darryl Nance’s coaching career spans several schools, but his impact has been consistently impressive. His first head coaching job was at Rock Hill HS where he made an immediate impact with his teams advancing to the play-offs all 3 seasons in one of the state’s most competitive regions. Coach Nance was also named the area’s Coach of the Year in his first season with the Bearcats. He then moved to Shannon Forest Christian School where he won the school’s first play-off win once again showing his ability to elevate programs.

But Wade Hampton HS is where Coach Nance had his most success leading the Generals 5 outright Region titles and shared 2 more titles. His teams advanced 5 times to the
Upper State finals and capped off the 2011 season with a perfect 29-0 record and the State Championship which is a proud milestone in school history. Over his career, Coach
Nance compiled an impressive 422-215 record and was voted Region Coach of the Year 8 times, Greenville County Coach of the Year 3 times, as well as the SC Athletic Coaches
Association Coach of the year plus the National Federation of High School Coaches State Coach of the Year. He was also chosen by his peers as an Assistant Coach for the North-South All Star Game in 2008, and later served as the Head Coach of the game in 2014.

Beyond the wins and honors, Coach Nance has been a leader and advocate for high school basketball with a long time of service with the SC Basketball Coaches Association
and a major influence in our State and nationally with his leadership in the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association. He has been an ambassador for
student-athletes and athletics for 30 plus years.

COACH REGGIE McLAIN: Reggie McLain has dedicated 24 years to coaching high school athletics with stops at Hunter-Kinard-Tyler HS,(2 years) Williston-Elko HS(3 years), and the 19 years leading the Keenan Lady Raiders to tremendous success. Over the years, Coach McLain has a career record of 405-182 and earned 15 Region Titles, advanced to the 3rd Round of the Play-offs on 18 occasions, 9 State title game appearances & captured 6 State Championships! His Keenan team made 5 straight appearances in the State
Championship games. Twenty-two of his former players have moved on to play college basketball. With all of this success, Coach McLain has been recognized for his excellence by being voted Region Coach of the Year 15 times, 3 times the SC High School Sports Report Coach of the year, numerous other organization Coach of the Year awards.

Also earned the District Officials Association Coaching Award and was also selected by his peers to serve as Assistant Coach for the North-South All Star Game in 2016 and a few years later in 2023, he was chosen as the Head Coach for the North-South All Star Game. 

Coach McLain has had a huge impact in his community and was given the Key to the City in 2013 for his profound influence, and May 7th was declared Reggie McLain Day. His
commitment, leadership and legacy serve as an inspiration for that community.

COACH JACKIE ROBERTS: Jackie Roberts spent her entire career at Westside HS and enjoyed tremendous success. She served as the JV Girls coach her first 6 years then moved up to the Head Varsity Coach in 1998 and retired in 2023. Her career record was 414-189 and her teams advanced to the play-offs 24 out of 25 years, and her 2001 team earned a trip to the Upper State Finals. Westside won 7 Region titles and she was voted Region Coach of the Year on 7 different occasions. 

The Lady Rams won Back-to-Back State AAAA Championships in 2021 and 2022. During those 2 seasons, the Lady Rams enjoyed a 38-game winning streak and posted the schools only perfect season with a 28-0 record. She has coached 27 players who went on to play at the collegiate level, including a college All-American. Many of her players were chosen for the North-South All Star Game and the Carolinas Classic All-Star Game.

Due to all of her success, Coach Roberts has earned numerous awards, including being chosen by her peers as an Assistant Coach for the 2007 North-South All Star Game and served as the Head Coach for that Game in 2009. Roberts was also selected as the Head Coach for the South Carolina Team in the Carolinas Classic All Star Game in 2022, plus was named the SC Athletic Coaches Association Coach of the year in 2022. 

She was honored by her school with her induction into the Westside HS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012. Coach Roberts has been very active in the SC Basketball Coaches Association serving as Region Representative and Upper State Representative during career. And a side note, Coach Robert ended her brief retirement and will return to the sidelines this year back at Westside HS.

COACH ZEKE WASHINGTON: Ezekiel “Zeke” Washington just finished his 37th year of coaching in South Carolina. He began his basketball career in 1987 at Branchville High School at the age of 23. In his inaugural season his team won the Region Title and he earned Region Coach of the year. After a stop at Dreher HS, he found several mentors who greatly influenced his career. Coaches such as George Glymph, Ben Trapp, Carl Williams, Vince Lowry, Tim Whipple, Bailey Harris, Timrod Gates, Steve Inabinet, Buddy Pough, and Wilson Walker helped shape his coaching philosophy. In 1994, he took over the Boys job at Fairfield Central HS and a few years later his team won the AAA State Championship. In 1999, he joined CHester HS as the Athletic Director and the following year he stepped into the role of Head Girls varsity coach. In 2004, Chester’s girls won the AAA State Championship and Coach Washington became one of only 4 coaches to win state championships in both boys and girls basketball!

Moving onto Lower Richland HS in 2007, his boys teams achieved great success over a 5 year period. The Diamonds won 20 or more games each year including clinching 5
consecutive Region Titles, plus earning an appearance in the Lower State Final and 2 Upper State Finals. In 2012, Coach Washington moved onto Blythewood HS as the Head
Boys Coach and has been a perennial state title contender ever since. Under his leadership Blythewood reached historic heights by reaching the State Championship
Game in 2017 followed by another appearance in 2025. His career record is 538-278 accompanied by 14 region titles, 2 upper state & 2 Lower state championships, 28
play-off appearances, and 2 State Championships. 

For all of these accomplishments, Coach Washington was chosen Coach of the Year 13 times, SC Sports Report Coach of the Year 3 times. He has served as an Assistant Girls Coach for the North-South All Star game in 2006, Assistant Coach for the Carolinas Class All Star Game in 2015, and later was selected as the Head Coach for the South Carolina team in 2022.
