SC bill H 4163 would alter the governance of high school athletics in South Carolina

It’s been a busy political week for the South Carolina High School League. On Tuesday, the State Newspaper reported that the S.C. House of Representatives Education and Public Works K-12 Subcommittee approved by a 9-0 vote to move forward with bill H 4163. The measure could break up the SCHSL and put leadership of high school athletics under the state’s general assembly.

As is the case with most issues, passions are running high on both sides of the aisle. Many in our state believe that the HS League does a fine job, while state representative Shannon Erickson of Beaufort believes there is “no accountability” within the SCHSL.

On Wednesday, former Union head football coach and state representative Mike Anthony dropped by SportsTalk to explain both sides of the debate and where the bill goes from here.
