As rain moved across the South Carolina coast on Thursday, the Coastal Carolina football team was unable to get in its next to last practice of the spring. So, as the Chanticleers prepare to wrap up spring ball on Saturday, head coach Tim Beck took a few moments to reflect on the first twelve workouts for his team.
“Been real pleased. Guys are working hard; we’re getting better,” Beck told the Sun Belt Conference media. “A lot of things being in your second year as a head coach, but second year as a whole staff and being around our players. Things are obviously a lot smoother, a lot less craziness than it was a year ago. So, it’s been a lot of fun.”
Beck elaborated on the quarterback battle going on this spring in the wake of long-time starter Grayson McCall’s transfer to NC State during the offseason. Beck says all four quarterbacks are getting plenty of reps, but he’s not ready to set the depth chart at that position.
The second-year head coach also addressed the injury situation for his team, with two players being lost for next season. Safety Dre Pinckney and RB Max Balthazar will miss the upcoming season after suffering injuries in the spring. Beck also touched on some of the offseason surgeries that his squad has gone through, limiting the number of healthy bodies they’ve had with which to work.
The Chanticleers will open the 2024 season on August 31st at Jacksonville State.
