Notes from Saturday’s games around the state involving FCS and D-2 teams

Savannah State 23-Allen 20 (OT)

Allen tied the game on a touchdown pass and two-point conversion with 3:00 to play. Savannah State booted a field goal in overtime and Allen lost a fumble on their first play of overtime to end the game. Fabian Duncan rushed for 143 yards on 29 carries. Yellow Jackets are 2-5 overall and 2-3 in the SIAC.

Anderson 35-Lenoir-Rhyne 28

James Bryson rushed for a program record 221 yards with touchdown runs of 73 and 70 yards. His fourth quarter touchdown run gave Andeson a two touchdown lead. The Trojans are 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the SAC.

Benedict 14-Fort Valley State 7

Tigers improve to 6-0 overall and 5-0 in the SIAC. Javon Williams took the opening kickoff back 88 yards for a touchdown. That was his second kickoff return for a touchdown this season, and he leads the nation in kickoff return average. He also caught a 29-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter that broke a 7-7 tie. Benedict had only 169 yards on offense but gave up just 222 yards.

#7 Tennessee Tech 27-Charleston Southern 14

The Bucs led 14-10 midway through the second quarter but were outscored 17-0 the rest of the way. Bucs finished with 209 total yards. They are 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the alliance.

The Citadel 38-Valdosta State 14

Bulldogs rushed for 354 yards. Sebastien Boyle led the way with 74 yards including a 72-yard touchdown run. The Bulldogs are 3-3 and 2-1 in the SOCON.

North Greenville 30-Erskine 0

Dylan Ramierz was 15-24 for 264 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Trailblazers to the win. Logan Coldren rushed for 103 yards for the Flying Fleet. North Greenville is 3-3 and 3-0 in Conference Carolinas and Erskine is 0-6 and 0-2.

Western Carolina 52-Furman 7

Paladins were outgained 522 yards to 356 yards. Trey Hedden passed for 208 yards and a touchdown but was picked off three times. Tyger Dickens passed for 220 yards and four touchdowns. Catamounts broke the game open with a 24 point second quarter. Furman is 4-2 and 2-1 in the SOCON.

Newberry 35-Tusculum 28

Jonah Norris scored the game winning touchdown on a one-yard run with 1:37 left in the game and the Wolves snuffed out a Tusculum drive to end the game as Newberry won its third consecutive game in the last two minutes with a 35-28 victory in Greeneville, Tenn. Reed Charpia was 25-33 for 305 yards and two touchdowns. He completed his final 12 passes. Quez Spells had 129 yards rushing on 10 carries including an 84-yard touchdown run and wide receive Keith Desaussure had his second straight 100-yard receiving game with 11 catches for 143 yards and a score. Charpia engineered the game winning drive completing all four of his passes for 78 yards including a 24-yard connection with Dorsey and back-to-back completions of 20 and 33 yards to Desaussure to set up Norris’ one-yard touchdown run with 1:37 remaining. Wolves are 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the SAC.

Presbyterian 31-Butler 25

Sophomore Justin Montgomery netted a career-high 134 rushing yards, tight end Nathan Levicki scored on a 75 yard pass and Presbyterian moved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Pioneer League. That touchdown catch gave the Blue Hose a 31-22 lead in the third quarter. PC is now one victory away from matching the school’s all-time record for best start to a season (established in 1959), winning their third one-score game of 2025 in the process. Presbyterian now holds a 10-game winning streak that spans nearly a full calendar year, the second-longest active streak of any NCAA Division I football team. Additionally, PC has tied Harvard for the most consecutive road wins of any FCS school, claiming their fifth straight W as the visiting party.

SC State 22-North Carolina A&T 16

The Bulldog defense put together another solid performance, with four (4) sacks on the day for 43-yards along with 13 tackles for loss for 69-yards, On the offensive side Mason Pickett-Hicks controlled the running game with 15 carries for 67-yards. Cyrus Ellison (54-yards) and Jordan Smith (42-yards) each caught four (4) catches to lead the receiving corp. The Bulldogs are 4-3 and open MEAC October 25th at Norfolk State. They are off this week.

Wofford 31-Norfolk State 14

With the game tied at 14 early in the third quarter, Wofford did not allow a first down on the Spartans’ last four drives while the offense scored 17 unanswered points to secure the win. The Terriers were led by Ihson Jackson-Anderson with 113 rushing yards and a touchdown. J.T. Fayard was 23-of-34 for 248 yards and two touchdowns. The Terriers are 1-5.
