Highlights from Saturday’s FCS and D2 games for state teams; Benedict, Furman, Anderson, State and NGU claim wins

Anderson 50-Virginia Wise 7

Second most points scored by the Trojans in their one and a half seasons; held the Cavaliers to -6 yards rushing; Tyler Wesley passed for 263 yards and two touchdowns and run for another score; Trojans are 4-2 and 2-2 in the South Atlantic Conference.

Benedict 38-Allen 28

The Tigers scored 17 fourth-quarter points to rally past the Yellow Jackets; the Tigers forced two fumbles and had a pick six, they also blocked a punt; the Tigers rushed for 239 yards and held Allen QB Jamir Dismukes to 192 passing yards, though he did throw two scoring passes; Benedict is 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the SIAC; Allen is 2-4 and 2-2.

Gardner-Webb 30-Charleston Southern 27

Bulldogs won on a 48-yard field goal as time expired; Ke’Marion Baldwin led the Bucs with 175 rushing yards; Justin Waters had 19 tackles and was named the league’s Defeisve Player of the week; the Bucs are 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the OVC-Big South.

UNC-Pembroke 44-Erskine 7

First Erskine game played in Due West since 1952; the Flying Fleet blocked a field goal and went on to score first, then Pembroke scored 44 straight; the Braves finished with 550 yards to 166 for Erskine; Flying Fleet now 0-5 and 0-1 in Conference Carolinas.

Furman 31-ETSU 22

Paladins rallied from a 22-7 deficit; Paladins had 500 yards with quarterback Trey Hedden completing 36 of 49 passes for 358 yards and 2 touchdowns; Ja’Keithi Hamilton had 11 catches for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns, and Ethan Harris had 11 catches for 81 yards; Paladins are 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Southern Conference.

Newberry 43-Wingate 42 (OT)

Wolves quarterback Reed Charpia threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Keith Desaussure in overtime, and then the two connected again on the two-point conversion for the win; Newberry rallied from 21-0 down in the second quarter; Charpia was 34-46 for 413 yards and 6 touchdowns and was named the SAC Offensive Player of the Week; Desaussure had 11 catches for 107 yards and 1 score; Todd Knight picked up his 100th win at Newberry; Wolves are 4-1 and 3-1 in the SAC.

North Greenville 31-Chowan 16

Trailblazers rushed for 249 yards with two backs going over 90 yards; Deshawn Thompkins led the ground game with 98 yards and a touchdown; North Greenville is 2-3 and 2-0 in the league.

SC State 49-Savannah State 6

The Bulldogs had 414 total yards to 198 for Savannah State with 358 yards through the air; Ryan Stubblefield was 14-30 for 206 yards and two touchdowns; the Bulldogs are 3-3.

Western Carolina 23-Wofford 21

Catamounts win on a field goal with 23 seconds to play; Western QB Taron Dickens completed his first 46 passes and finished 53-56 for 378 yards and 3 touchdowns; WCU ran 93 plays to 37 for Wofford and had the ball for 39 minutes; Wofford had 241 yards with QB Jayden Whitaker throwing for 209 yards and two scores; Terriers are 0-5 and 0-2.
