Hammond LB Jackson Ross is closing in on his decision, and as such, has moved up his commitment announcement to this Sunday. Ross plans to have a gathering of friends and family with him at the Players Club in downtown Columbia when he reveals his choice at around 5:00 PM. He plans to stream his announcement on Instagram.
Ross is down to USC, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt and made official visits to all three this month.
“I have a pretty good feeling, but I’m still juggling a little bit,” Ross said Monday afternoon. “Looking at the opportunity to go win as well as get on the field are my two biggest things. I feel like the most important thing is to be able to get on the field early. But at the same time, if I go get on the field early somewhere and we’re not winning ball games, then is it really worth not sitting that extra year and getting experience, and then when it’s my time, really going in and being able to win a lot of games? Just balancing out those different kinds of things.”
Ross said coaches from all three programs have been in touch, with USC linebackers coach Clayton White delivering his message that he will need linebackers come the 2027 season.
“The biggest thing about South Carolina is they’re losing a lot of athleticism from the linebacker room with potentially these three guys all moving on to the next level,” Ross said. “There’s some things that I can bring into the linebacker room that they’re going to be needing a lot.”
Ross is the son of former Gamecock basketball player David Ross, but he has said in the past his legacy status with the program will not affect his decision.
Last season, Ross had 122 tackles with 22 tackles for loss and eight sacks.
