South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson, a North Carolina native, has done well recruiting players for his room out of the Tar Heel state, and he’s got the Gamecocks in the lead with 2028 DT Antonio Flowers (6-4 300) of Charlotte. Flowers visited for the Kent State game last month, and a month later he was back in Columbia for the Kentucky game.

“It was great, though it was a tough loss by South Carolina,” Flowers said. “When I got down there, they started to treat me good. Talk to the head coach, Coach Beamer. Got to catch up with him for a couple of things, asking me how I was doing and stuff. Everything was great. The energy. They treat me real good up there. They feed you. They do a whole lot. They communicate with you before the game and after the game, win or lose. So it’s always good energy with South Carolina there, and I love it.”

Flowers said Robertson has done a great job cultivating the relationship and making him feel like a major target.

“I talk to him mostly every day,” Flowers said. “They call up to check on me. We talk about life outside of football sometimes. But it’s real good. Coach T- Rob, our relationship is real great. He told me some of their stuff on defense that they run is real similar to ours. When I was at West Mecklenburg, he came to the school and told me to write some plays down. I wrote it down, and he said it was real similar to his, and that’s how I started watching South Carolina film a whole lot. I can learn a lot of stuff from these guys. He’s a real good coach. He’s hard on you every day. When I first started talking to him, he told me I like your film. We want to get you up here for a couple of visits. The same stuff that we do, we do the same thing. Like when I started playing football, I didn’t really know a lot of stuff. Coach T-Rob taught me a whole lot just off of words from his mouth.”

Not that he needs it, but Robertson has a little bit of behind-the-scenes help with Flowers. His former teammate at USC, Captain Munnerlyn, is Flowers’ head coach at Chambers High School.

“I got them as of right now my number one,” Flowers said. ” I’m just a junior, so I still got one more year. I’ll be close to committing around, I would say, June, July. I’ll be dropping my top ten after the season is over.”

Flowers added that Georgia is currently number two on his list.

Flowers has been to three games at USC over the last two seasons, and he plans to return for more this season. He has also been to Georgia and Duke for games this season. He is going to Tennessee for the Alabama game, and to Ohio State for the Oregon game.
