South Carolina secondary coach Torrian Gray apparently wants another cornerback for the 2027 recruiting class, and apparently the guy he wants is Aidyn Wiggins of Byrnes. Gray just scored a big recruiting win on Wednesday with a commitment from CB Josh Dobson. While that was coming down, he was on the phone with Wiggins, making the case for why he should flip to the Gamecocks.
“He was just telling me who they got and how I could be the next one, potentially,” Wiggins said. “They’ve been making a press, telling me how much they want me and how good it would be to have me, since Josh just committed. Have both of us on the defense. Of course, I’m happy for Josh. He found his spot. If they were to get both of us, I feel like we would be a great duo in their secondary. I see what type of players they look for, and me and him both fit the same category.”
Wiggins said not only has Gray been involved with the discussions, but he’s also hearing from head coach Shane Beamer, defensive coordinator Clayton White, and assistant defensive backs coach Jaylan Foster, who is a former Gamecock and a former Byrnes standout.
Right now, though, despite all that, Wiggins is holding firm with his Auburn commitment. Tigers head coach Alex Golesh and corners coach DeMarcus Van Dyke are also keeping the lines of communication hot.
“I actually talked to Coach Golesh and Coach DVD today (Wednesday),” Wiggins said. “We talk almost every day, especially me and coach DVD. With Auburn, I’m just locked in with them just because I feel like Coach Golesh can do big things. Coach DVD, he’s going to do good things. And just knowing the class that we got, our class could do something special. South Carolina, of course, could do something special. Just knowing Coach T-Gray, the DBs he is producing for the league, but I just feel as if Auburn would be the best place for me right now. I technically have it shut down, but I still want to have that connection with Coach (Gray) just in case something does happen, and I do want to flip.”
Wiggins was also offered by Clemson in May, but he said the Tigers are no longer in touch. Auburn was his only official visit before he committed on June 2nd. He had other OVs planned with Syracuse, LSU and Virginia Tech.
