The long summer run of NCAA-approved basketball events is continuing this week. Two of the biggest ones are the adidas event in Bryan, TX, and the Nike-sponsored competition in Las Vegas. It’s in the Nevada head where you will likely find some USC and Clemson recruiters, as they keep their eyes on 6-6 Frashad Tisby of Augusta.

The Gamecocks have offered Tisby, the Tigers have not at this point. Both, however, are big players in his recruitment. USC coach Lamont Paris and his staff had a chance to watch Tisby at their team camp last month.

“I was still getting the connections with Coach Lamont and Coach Carey Rich,” Tisby said. “I met one of the new staff members, and Sam Decker said he’ll be in touch with me. He enjoys watching me play, so I’ve still been in contact with them. They’ve been watching my games and keeping in contact with me since my sophomore year. Then my junior year, they offered me. So ever since then, they’ve just been keeping in contact with me, checking up on me, seeing how my day is going. They have been really interested in me.”

Tisby said he got the chance to talk more with Paris and Rich while he was in Columbia for the team camp, and he got a good idea of how they feel about his game.

“Both of them, they say I’m kind of a unique player, and they like the way that I can facilitate the ball at my size,” Tisby said. “I’m a 6’6 combo guard, so the way that I can score the ball, and the way I can pass the ball, they said I do a lot of the little things that help win games and make a lot of winning plays.”

Brad Brownell of Clemson has also made his presence known with Tisby from a recruiting standpoint, and he’s hoping the Tigers will take that next step and offer as well.

“Coach Brownell, he’s very passionate on the stuff he runs and what he does as far as his defensive game and offensive game,” Tisby said. “He just wants his players to be able to score the ball at ease and not have to go late in the shot clock. And then the defensive end, they’re very help-oriented. They like to help the helper. It’s a very good school. The fan base is very loyal. All the fans come to the games. They enjoy watching the teams play. The facilities they have, they take very good care of their players as far as getting them recovery. If they played a long game and they need time to recover, they have recovery machines.”

Tisby has not scheduled any official visits for the fall, but he is considering USC, Clemson, West Virginia, Harvard, and Yale for possible trips. His offers also include Mississippi State, Marquette, Auburn, Florida State, Rice, and Xavier. He plans to sign in November.

Tisby also gets it done in the classroom, where he carries a 4.23 GPA.
